Due to a hectic schedule and an ever demanding offspring, this page has become a site ground of emptiness for a little while. With overflowing thoughts in the past days, I can’t simply enumerate the things that I have always wanted to put into words.

Anyhow, I managed to find something that’s worth writing about. To begin with, let me ask this question. Do you blog to impress your readers of your writing ability while delivering sensible issues worth discussing on the web? If so, I bet you know the language very well and that you can deliver your thoughts and ideas with pride.anglais.gif

As most of us may know, English is the universal language and the medium of instruction wherever you may be in the world. Besides the national language that some ‘Asians’ like myself primarily learn in the four corners of our classrooms when we first set foot in a school campus, there is the second language that we either hate or love to acquire because it’s what we are always told to learn so that we may become more competitive in the future. That is, when we start to venture into the real world which is finding a job. A person is said to have the edge over the other when he has the ability or skill that is needed in order to get the position of a certain workforce and that which includes communication.

As a second language user/speaker, I acknowledge my mediocrity and my limitations which oftentimes show in my blog posts. Well, I don’t mean to write to impress nor that I mean to write to educate people. More often than not, bloggers (including myself) are not writing to make an impression but rather for each own differing personal reasons that are too many to mention and that includes being able to learn more of the said medium.

As I have understood, others write to practice and be able to expand one’s vocabulary which is a very good reason to do so. I for one see “writing” that way too. But, there are certain times in which someone like me (a second language user user/speaker — English language to be specific) tends to misspell words or interchange the use of words that sound alike. I have always been interested in the English language since the very beginning I held a book of ABC’s and up until now, I’m still learning. Although, words are arbitrary or should I say language is ever changing and that’s why it’s inevitable that people misspell some words. To write effectively, it’s a must to do a spell check especially if you don’t want to be misunderstood by readers should you have lots of them. In my personal observations and encounters or readings particularly, some do misuse words unintentionally — I don’t really know. With the hope to help if not to correct these simple mistakes, let me share some of the COMMONLY MISSPELLED WORDS that we should pay attention to in our writings.

A lot…………………………………………………………….

A lot is not one word; a lot (two words) is a very general descriptive phrase which should be avoided in formal writing.
Altogether, all together………………………………

Altogether is always an adverb meaning “completely.” All together is used to describe people or things which are gathered in one place at one time.

Among, between…………………………………………

Among is used when speaking of more than two persons or things. Between is used when speaking of only two.
Number is used when you actually count the persons or things. Amount is used to describe things which can be weighed or measured, but not counted.

Beside, besides…………………………………………….
Beside means “by the side.” Besides means “in addition to.”

Bring, take……………………………………………………

• Use bring when the action is moving toward the speaker; use take when the action is moving away from the speaker.

By, buy…………………………………………………………
By is preposition meaning “near or through.” Buy is a verb meaning “to purchase”.

I can go on forever, but I will be adding up more every now and then so, check them out from time to time on this post.
